How This Calculator Works

Your required bank balance has two parts:

  1. Remaining tuition fee: The first-year (or full course, if shorter) fee shown on your CAS, minus any amount you have already paid.
  2. Living costs (maintenance): A fixed monthly amount for up to 9 months, depending on where you study.

Monthly Living Cost Amounts

Application Date London Outside London
Before 30 November 2026 Β£1,529 / month Β£1,171 / month
On or after 30 November 2026 Β£1,570 / month Β£1,203 / month

Things to Remember

  • The amount depends on the date you submit your visa application, not your CAS or course start date.
  • You can deduct a maximum of one month’s living costs for university-arranged accommodation fees you have already paid.
  • Funds can be in your own name or your parent’s or legal guardian’s name (with a birth certificate and consent letter).
  • Keep some extra money above the required amount to cover exchange rate changes and bank charges.
  • If you have been in the UK on a visa for 12 months or more and are applying from inside the UK, you usually do not need to show living costs.
