Last checked: September 2026. UK visa rules and fees change often, so always confirm the latest details on GOV.UK before you apply.
Planning to visit the UK for tourism, to see family, or for a short business trip? Pakistani passport holders need a UK Standard Visitor visa before they travel. The application itself is straightforward, but many visitor visas are refused because of weak or inconsistent documents. This guide explains exactly which documents you need, what the visa costs in 2026, and the mistakes that most often lead to refusals.
What Is the UK Standard Visitor Visa?
The Standard Visitor visa lets you stay in the UK for up to six months for activities such as:
- Tourism and holidays
- Visiting family or friends
- Permitted business activities, such as meetings and conferences
- Short courses of study (up to six months)
- Private medical treatment
You cannot work in the UK, claim public funds, or live there for long periods through frequent visits on this visa.
UK Visit Visa Fees in 2026
The UK Home Office increased visa fees on 8 April 2026. The current government fees are:
| Visa type | Government fee |
|---|---|
| Standard Visitor visa (up to 6 months) | Β£135 |
| Long-term visitor visa (2 years) | Β£506 |
| Long-term visitor visa (5 years) | Β£903 |
| Long-term visitor visa (10 years) | Β£1,128 |
Optional faster services are available at an extra cost: Priority (Β£500, decision usually within 5 working days) and Super Priority (Β£1,000, decision usually the next working day, where available). You can check the exact fee in Pakistani rupees on the official Home Office fee calculator.
Visitor visas do not require the Immigration Health Surcharge, and a TB test is generally not required for visits of six months or less.
Processing Time
The standard processing time is about 3 weeks after you give your biometrics at the visa application centre. During busy seasons, such as summer and before Eid or Christmas, it can take longer. You can apply up to 3 months before your travel date, so apply early and never book non-refundable tickets before you receive a decision.

- If your host is paying for your trip: their bank statements and payslips
6. Travel Plans
- A simple day-by-day travel plan
- A hotel booking, or your host’s address if you are staying with them
- A flight reservation (a reservation is enough, you do not need a paid ticket)

- Upload your documents or bring them to your appointment, as instructed.
- Attend your appointment to give your fingerprints and photograph.
- Wait for the decision, which usually takes about 3 weeks.
Common Reasons for UK Visit Visa Refusal
- Weak ties to Pakistan: the officer is not convinced you will return, for example because there is no stable job, business or family commitments
- Unexplained funds: large, sudden deposits in your bank account
- Inconsistent information: dates, salary or relationships in the form do not match your documents
- Unclear purpose: the reason for the visit is vague, or the trip does not make financial sense compared to your income
- Previous immigration problems: an earlier overstay or refusal that was not disclosed in the form
If you were refused before, always declare it and explain what has changed since then. Hiding a previous refusal can lead to a much longer ban.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much bank balance do I need for a UK visit visa?
There is no fixed minimum amount. You need to show that you can cover the full cost of your trip, including flights, accommodation and daily expenses, without affecting your normal life in Pakistan. A steady income and a regular bank history matter more than one large balance.
Can I apply for a UK visit visa without travel history?
Yes. Many first-time travellers are approved. Without travel history, strong financial documents and clear ties to Pakistan become even more important.
Do I need to buy a flight ticket before applying?
No. A flight reservation or a simple travel plan is enough. It is safer not to buy a non-refundable ticket until you receive your visa.
Can I work in the UK on a visitor visa?
No. Paid or unpaid work for a UK company, and doing work for UK clients as a freelancer while in the UK, is generally not allowed on a visitor visa.
