Bank Statement Requirements for UK, Canada and Australia Visas (2026 Guide for Pakistanis)

Last checked: September 2026. Financial requirements change regularly, so always confirm the latest amounts on the official government websites linked below before you apply.

“How much money do I need in my bank account?” is the most common question Pakistani visa applicants ask. The answer depends on the country and the type of visa. For student visas, there are fixed minimum amounts. For visitor visas, there is no fixed amount, but the officer still checks whether your finances make sense. Weak or suspicious bank statements are one of the most common reasons for visa refusals. This guide explains what each country expects and how to prepare a strong bank statement.

What Makes a Good Bank Statement?

Whichever country you apply to, visa officers look for the same basic things:

  • Official format: a statement on the bank’s letterhead or with the bank’s stamp, showing your name, account number and transaction history
  • Enough history: usually the last 6 months for visitor visas
  • Regular income: salary, business income or other regular credits that match your job or business documents
  • A clear source of funds: every large deposit should have an explanation and supporting documents
  • A realistic balance: enough to cover your trip or studies without affecting your normal life in Pakistan

Many applicants also include a bank maintenance letter or account certificate, which confirms the account details and current balance.

The Biggest Mistake: “Funds Parking”

Funds parking means borrowing money from friends or relatives, depositing it just before applying, and returning it after the visa. Visa officers are very experienced at spotting this. A sudden large deposit with no clear source is one of the most common reasons for refusal, and in some cases it can be treated as misleading the officer.

If you do have a genuine large deposit, such as from selling property, a loan, or a gift from a family member, include documents that prove it, such as a sale agreement, loan letter or the family member’s bank statement.

UK Visa Bank Statement Requirements

UK Visitor Visa

There is no fixed minimum amount for a UK visitor visa. You must show that you can pay for your flights, accommodation and daily expenses without difficulty. Submit 6 months of bank statements, along with salary slips or business documents that explain your income. If a UK host is paying for your trip, include their bank statements and payslips too.

UK Student Visa

For a UK Student visa, you must show your remaining first-year tuition fees plus living costs for up to 9 months:

Study location Per month Maximum (9 months)
London Β£1,529 Β£13,761
Outside London Β£1,171 Β£10,539

Change from 30 November 2026: these amounts will increase to Β£1,570 per month in London (Β£14,130 maximum) and Β£1,203 per month outside London (Β£10,827 maximum). Check which amount applies on your application date.

The 28-day rule: the full amount must stay in the account for at least 28 consecutive days, and the end of that period must be no more than 31 days before you apply. If your balance drops below the required amount even for one day in that period, your application can be refused. Funds can be in your own account or your parent’s account. If you use a parent’s account, include your birth certificate or FRC and a letter from your parent giving consent.

Canada Visa Bank Statement Requirements

Canada Visitor Visa

Like the UK, Canada has no fixed minimum for visitor visas. Officers assess whether your funds match your income and the cost of your trip. Submit 6 months of bank statements with your employment or business documents. If family in Canada is supporting your trip, include their invitation letter and financial documents.

Canada Study Permit

For study permit applications submitted on or after 1 September 2026 (outside Quebec), you must show:

Family members (including you) Living costs required
1 (single applicant) CAD 23,448
2 CAD 29,192
3 CAD 35,888
4 CAD 43,572

This amount covers living costs only. You must also show that you can pay your first year’s tuition and travel costs. Officers now assess where your funds come from in every case, so a clear, documented source of money is essential. Quebec has its own, different requirements.

Australia Student Visa

For a Student visa (subclass 500), a single applicant must show access to about AUD 29,710 per year for living costs, plus tuition fees and travel costs. The funds must be genuinely available to you, for example in your own or a family member’s account, or through an education loan. Your financial situation is also considered as part of the Genuine Student assessment.

If Someone Else Is Sponsoring You

If a parent, spouse or other family member is paying for your trip or studies, include:

  • A sponsorship letter explaining their relationship to you and what they will pay for
  • Their bank statements for the last 6 months
  • Proof of their income, such as salary slips, business documents or tax returns
  • Proof of your relationship, such as the FRC or birth certificate

The sponsor’s income should clearly support the amount they are promising to pay.

Checklist Before You Submit

  • Statement stamped or issued by the bank, with your full name matching your passport
  • Correct time period covered (6 months for visitors, or the 28-day rule for UK students)
  • No unexplained large deposits
  • Income in the statement matches your salary slips or business documents
  • Balance meets the required amount on every day of the required period (for student visas)
  • Sponsor documents included, if someone else is paying

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a higher balance always better?

Not necessarily. A balance that is much higher than your income can raise questions about where the money came from. A consistent, well-explained financial history is more convincing than one large amount.

Can I show property instead of cash?

Property documents help show your ties to Pakistan, especially for visitor visas. However, for student visas, you usually need to show funds that are readily available, such as money in a bank account or an education loan.

Do I need a bank statement in English?

Yes. Most Pakistani banks issue statements in English. If any financial document is in Urdu, include a certified English translation.
