Last updated: September 2026. Service availability and fees can change, so always confirm the latest details on GOV.UK and the VFS Global website before you apply.
The standard processing time for most UK visas applied for from outside the UK is about 3 weeks after your biometrics appointment. If you need a decision sooner, for example because of a family emergency, an urgent business trip or a late university offer, you can pay for a faster service. This guide explains the two options, how much they cost, and when they are worth it.
The Two Faster Services
| Service | Extra fee | Target decision time |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | No extra fee | About 3 weeks |
| Priority | £500 | Usually within 5 working days |
| Super Priority | £1,000 | Usually by the end of the next working day |
These fees are in addition to the normal visa fee. For example, a 6-month UK visitor visa costs £135, so with Priority the total government cost is £635, and with Super Priority it is £1,135. When visa fees increased on 8 April 2026, the Priority and Super Priority fees did not change.
How the Timeline Works
The processing time starts after you attend your biometrics appointment, not when you submit the online form. Working days do not include weekends or UK public holidays. So if you give your biometrics on a Friday with Super Priority, you would usually receive a decision by the end of Monday.
After the decision, your passport still needs to be returned to you, which can add a day or more depending on your collection or courier option.
Is It Available in Pakistan?
Faster services are offered at UK visa application centres in Pakistan, run by VFS Global, but availability is limited and can change. There is usually a daily limit on the number of Priority and Super Priority applications, and slots can fill up quickly, especially during busy seasons. Check availability when you apply online and book your appointment.
Which Visas Can Use It?
Faster services are generally available for common visa types, including:
- Standard Visitor visas
- Student visas
- Many work and family visas
Availability depends on your visa type and the centre, so check the options shown during your online application.
Important Things to Know
- It does not improve your chances. Priority services only speed up the decision. The officer applies exactly the same rules, and a weak application will still be refused, just faster.
- Complex cases can take longer. If your application needs extra checks, an interview or more documents, the target time may not be met.
- Refunds are limited. Check the refund terms before paying, as the extra fee is not always refunded if the target time is missed.
- Your documents must be complete. Missing documents are the most common reason a fast application gets delayed.
When Is It Worth Paying For?
It can be worth it if:
- You have a genuine urgent reason to travel, such as a family illness, wedding or funeral
- Your university course starts soon and you received your CAS late
- You have an important business meeting at short notice
It is usually not necessary if:
- Your travel date is more than 4–6 weeks away
- You are unsure whether your documents are complete. In that case, fix your documents first.
The cheapest option is always to apply early. You can apply for a UK visitor visa up to 3 months before you travel, and for a Student visa up to 6 months before your course starts.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Super Priority guarantee a visa?
No. It only speeds up the decision. The outcome depends entirely on your application.
Can I upgrade to Priority after applying?
It is usually easiest to choose the faster service when you apply and book your appointment. Upgrading later is not always possible, so decide in advance.
Is the decision really next day?
For straightforward applications, Super Priority decisions are usually made by the end of the next working day after biometrics. Complex applications can take longer.
